 Burton High School Director of Bands: Manuel Young

Manuel Young is a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's in Trumpet Performance. He's also a graduate of the American Band College accredited through San Houston State University with a Master's Degree in Music Conducting. He is the director of the Burton High School Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Rock Band, Intermediate Band and Marching Band. He also currently performs trumpet with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony and gigs with the Community College of San Francisco stage band.  He is a member of the San Francisco Association of Instructors in Music, CMEA, NCBA, TMEA, and MENC. 


 

Percussion Instructor: Divesh Karamchandani

Divesh Karamchandani holds a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance and Instrumental Music Education from the California State University, Stanislaus. Divesh is also a graduate from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a  Masters of Music in Percussion Performance and studied with world-renowned and former principal percussionist of the San Francisco Symphony, Jack Van Geem. Divesh is currently the principal percussionist of the Townsend Opera Players, has established himself as a freelance musician in the Central Valley and greater Bay Area. Apart of being BHS's full time percussion technician, Divesh is also employed with the San Francisco Symphony Instrument Training and Support Program. Divesh is a part of the percussion faculty at the Summer Music at Stanislaus music camp held at the beautiful CSU Stanislaus campus in Turlock, CA. The 2019-2020 school year marks the 8th year he’s been a part of the Burton High School Band staff.
